The Alabama 3 script(ure) was conceived by Larry Love (Rob Spragg) and The Very Reverend Dr. D. Wayne Love (Jake Black) in the sweat soaked hedonism of the free party experience of 1988, blueprinted over two twelves for Nottingham's DIY imprint and finally delivered as a fully fledged sermon by the mid-90's in the shape of The First Presleyterian Church Of Elvis The Divine (UK) with its band of misfit disciples – The Mountain of Love (Piers Marsh), Sir Real Congaman Love (Simon Edwards), The Spirit (Orlando Harrison), Rock Freebass (Mark Sams) and L.B. The RutlesLast Gig Ever!!!!! (Apparently) |
www :: |
£ |

On January 21, 1959 the Rutles story began at 43 Egg Lane, Liverpool, where Ron Nasty and Dirk McQuickly first bumped into each other. Ron invited Dirk to help him stand up. Dirk, merely an amateur drinker, agreed and on that spot a legend was created, a legend that will last a lunchtime. They were soon to be joined by Stig O'Hara, a guitarist of no fixed hairstyle, but it would be another two years before they found their regular drummer, Barrington Womble, hiding in the van. When they did, they persuaded him to change his name to save time and his haircut to save Brylcreem. He became simply Barry Wom.
The Rutles forged a career in pop that is unparralled. In 1969 they split. In the midst of public and legal wrangling Let It Rot was released as a film, an album, and a lawsuit. It showed the Rutles as never before; tired, unhappy, cross, and just like the rest of the world.
In December 1970 Dirk sued Stig and Nasty, Barry sued Dirk, Nasty sued Stig and Barry, and Stig sued himself accidentally. It was the end of a golden era, and the beginning of another one for lawyers everywhere.
This rare and very exclusive gig charts the career of The Rutles through their songs. Ron Nasty and Barry Wom are proud to present The Rutles in Concert.
Among the (real) musicians performing are:NEIL INNES, JOHN HALSEY, MARK GRIFFITHS, MICKEY SIMMONDS, KEN THORNTON, JJ JONES. (By the way, Eric Idle only mimed in the film and he won't be onstage.) NOTE FOR REALISTS: Neil Innes was the musical leader of the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. His talent for melding sharply satiric lyrics with sweetly catchy pop songs in a variety of musical styles was the group's secret weapon. Over the course of their four albums, Innes subtly moved the group's focus from '20s jazz to '60s pop, including gems like the 'I'm the Urban Spaceman' hit. Innes was also the unofficial seventh member of Monty Python, contributing songs to Python's stage show, albums, and films; appearing in every film and in sketches in their final television series. His other TV credits include 'Do Not Adjust Your Set', 'Rutland Weekend television' (out of which The Rutles developed) and 'The Innes Book of Records'. Neil Innes is the man who put the whistle in Eric idle's 'Always Look On the Bright Side Of Life'... as he says today, 'I've suffered for my music... now it's your turn.' |

ENGLAND'S PREMIER PSYCHEDELIC-TRANCE-ROCK JAM BAND
Ozric Tentacles are, simply put, legends of the UK underground.
The Ozrics swiftly claimed their place as a staple of the UK's burgeoning festival scene, and are now credited as one of the influential musical linchpins of the scene's re-emergence. Throughout the early 1990's, constant touring of the UK helped The Ozric Tentacles to build a tremendous national fanbase on a grass roots level. With the band's 1993 release "Jurassic Shift," which debuted at #11 on the British pop chart and climbed into the Top 10 in the National Album Charts, the Ozrics eventually won over the adulation of mainstream press, and found itself heralded in publications such as NME and Melody Maker. It was, and still is, an astonishing accomplishment for a band with no hit single, no celebrity status, and no major record label backing. "The Ozrics drift to rock fusion purgatory, where song structure crumbles and whim takes the reins. Riffs splinter like shrapnel. Protracted solos come casually, sometimes two at a time. The sound changes chameleonesquely, from solid, tightly-wrapped fusion to warped, chaotic drone." - Bob Gulla, Creem Magazine |

Juicy Lucy - Sorry Gig Cancelled Due to Throat Infection"...one of the most respected outfits to come howlin' and wailin' out of the Sixties' blues boom" |
www :: |
£ |
In
the beginning there was a band called The Misunderstood. Hailed in the
late sixties as pioneers of the psychedelic movement by the likes of
Pink Floyd, their cause had been championed by John Peel who discovered
them whilst he was working as a DJ in the US. He was so impressed by
them that he produced their first recordings in 1966 and invited them
to come to the UK, an offer they later took up. However, having made
it to the UK the Vietnam draft in the US and UK immigration services
caused personnel problems, so in the late sixties Ray Owen was drafted
in on vocals and The Misunderstood became Juicy Lucy.
Unfortunately all was not well in the Lucy camp. Personal differences took their toll and lead singer Ray Owen's position fronting the band was taken over by Paul Williams, then known for his work with Alan Price and Zoot Money. This was the first of several personel changes, including the addition of Micky Moody, later to achieve great success as a key writer and performer with Whitesnake. By the time of the band's last album "Pieces" none of the original members who had seared their way onto the scene with Who Do You Love remained in the band. And so Juicy Lucy disappeared from sight. However, 1995 saw the return of the band. With Ray taking the position centre stage on vocals and guitar and ably assisted by Mike Jarvis (guitar) Spencer Blackledge (drums) and Andy Doughty (bass) the album "Here She Comes Again" saw the light of day. The band toured in support of the album, but could not reach out to either their old fans, or the new audience which they desired. Dispirited, that line-up called it a day after a couple of years. Soon after the collapse of that incarnation of Juicy Lucy, Ray came into contact with Mr Fish. It was immediately obvious to each of them that the other had talent and so they decided to work together. Legal considerations at the time prevented them using the Juicy Lucy name, so they gigged and recorded as "Ray Owen's Moon", a name originally used for Ray's 1973 solo album. Over the course of the next few years there were several changes of personnel working alongside the dynamic duo; another guitarist as well as various drummers and bass players (including Fudge and the band's current manager). And then in 2002 Fletch came on to the scene. Possessing a remakable combination of skill, power and imagination he instantly fitted into place as the final piece of the puzzle and the band achieved a new level. With a renewed enthusiasm the band set about writing, rehersing and gigging. Although still out in the cold as far as the mainstream of the music industry was concerned, they set about working at the grass roots level. Doing the unthinkable, they were playing original music in pubs and small clubs, getting a great response and building up a following. By 2004 the situation with the Juicy Lucy name had been resolved and it was clear that the band had the capability to repeat, or even exceed, it's earlier success. Sanctuary Records had released "Who Do You Love - the anthology" and interest in the band was being shown from all over the world. By mid-2004 a management deal had been struck and Juicy Lucy was back in business! April 2005 saw the band setting out to gig across the UK. Kicking off supporting Saxon and Wishbone Ash in front of a crowd of 4000, they played in venues from Plymouth to Aberdeen and back again. Whether playing to long time fans from back in the '70s or to student audiences the response was the same; ecstatic! As one happy audience member was heard to say in Dundee "They're real live rock stars, but nobody knows it yet!" February 2006 sees the band taking a break from recording the first CD of new material in over ten years, to support Nazareth at a string of dates across England |

Aynsley picked up the guitar at 8 and played his first gig at 13. One year later on a family trip to San Francisco, he was jamming with a band supporting Cocoa Montoya at 'Lou?s Bar' on Pier 49. Brought up on his father?s record collection, he had learned to play by ear and would sit for hours in his bedroom playing along to old 45s of Freddie King, John Mayall and Eric Clapton.
By the time he was 18, he had worked his way through various bands and decided to form his own three piece to play the music he loved ? blues. Fronting a band for the first time, he also started singing and writing his own material. The band decided to put out a couple of albums, the second of which featured 3 of Aynsley?s self penned numbers. It was these that attracted the attention of Ruf Records head honcho Thomas Ruf, and in the summer of 1998 they signed a deal.
Together with producer Jim Gaines (Stevie Ray, Albert Collins, Santana), Aynsley went into the studio and recorded his debut for the label including a duet with veteran bluesman Walter Trout. Released in Europe, Lister received critical acclaim and toured extensively over the next two years sharing stages with artists such as Buddy Guy, Robert Cray and John Mayall and as diverse as Bryan Adams and Fun Lovin? Criminals.

He has also worked alongside other notable luminaries to include: Jeff Beck, John Mayall, Walter Trout and Peter Green. During this period Ian has gained recognition from many of the genre's biggest names.
"The best band I've seen in a decade - Ian's voice, feel and guitar technique are what his contemporaries can only dream of!" WALTER TROUT – Nov 2000
Ian offers something for everyone – blues, roots, soul, gospel, funk and even a touch of jazz are all to be found in the musical melting pot of a young man fast becoming Britain's best-loved blues/roots performe.

Angela Brown & The Mighty 45'sAngela Brown is certainly a blues diva - "raucous, raunchy and rumbustious" are just some of the words used to describe this great singer. |
£ |
10.00 |
Born in Chicago, Illinois. Angela began her musical career by singing gospel music in church and although she was aware of the blues she didn't sing them until around 1980, when she played the role of Gertrude "Ma" Rainey in a stage musical. Inspired by the music, she worked, honing her craft, in numerous Chicago blues clubs, often accompanied by pianists Little Brother Montgomery or Erwin Helfer. Her debut recordings were released by the Red Beans label in 1983, and the first album under her own name was made in 1987 for the German label Schubert.
She was dubbed "the Bessie Smith of the 80s', a deserved title given her strong renditions of vaudeville blues material. Her powerful voice is also well-suited to more modern blues styles, becoming a popular attraction at blues festivals all over the world not only vocally, but for her onstage presence and oomph!
Past years have seen Angela voted Overseas Female Artist of the Year and her album Thinking out Loud with her English band The Mighty 45s was runner up as the UK album of the Year in 2000.
With her favourite 4 piece band The Mighty 45s, Angela developed her act into one of the 'hottest live blues, soul and gospel shows seen outside Chicago' (Time Out) - last touring in the UK with GTA on their successful American Festival of The Blues in 2002.
Angela Brown is a classy, powerful fusion of musical talent, performing a seamless mix of blues, soul, rock and jazz in her subtle but hard-hitting style. Angela has the '.. sort of voice that, fullyunleashed, could strip Ronseal off your floorboard!" (The Sunday Times).
"…. the hottest blues, soul, jazz, gospel show seen outside of Chicago" - Time Out
"… they are a classy and powerful live experience. Marks out of ten? Eleven" - Time Out
".. it's hard to isolate one member from the incredibly tight fusion of musical talent that makes up The Mighty 45s. They make the hairs on the back of your next stand up" - Mail on Sunday
"… with a voice as deep and hot as the earth's core, Angela Brown proves beyond doubt that her ranking alongside Etta James and Koko Taylor is fully justified" - Blues & Rhythm
".. Angela Brown captivated the large audience with a personality that was as huge as her mighty voice. Her irrepressible crowd pleasing and dramatic, expressive vocal style were irresistible" - The Irish News

Formed in the spring of 1994, before most tribute bands were heard of, By Jovi have, through hard work and determination, gig after gig, night after night, established themselves as one of the worlds leading tribute bands.
All members being professional musicians and former music teachers, performing with members of bands such as SAXON, THIN LIZZY, PLACEBO, SCREAMING LORD SUTCH, THE STRANGLERS, STATUS QUO and THE COMMITMENTS, the level of musicianship is second to none.
2004 has seen the band go from strength to strength with the joining of their amazing new frontman – Marty James from Cumbria. Marty got his first record deal at the age of 22 and had records released throughout Europe with great reviews from magazines such as Kerrang! and Metal Hammer. He was then signed to an independent record label and released further albums in Europe and Japan. His band toured Europe and the UK with US rock giants Lillian Axe and also toured the UK with Crown of Thorns who, ironically, supported Bon Jovi at Wembley Stadium and Don Valley Stadium. Some of the many other artists who Marty has shared the stage with include Skin, Ted Poley (Danger Danger), FM and Girlschool to name a few.
The band now feel that this is their strongest and best sounding line-up to date and are looking at taking on even more gigs for 2005 including the USA and hopefully, Japan.

With more than 40 albums and countless collaborations to his credit, Taj Mahal is one of the recording industry's most celebrated contemporary blues artists.
Now a legendary performer, songwriter, composer, and producer, Taj grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts in a home that cherished sounds from around the globe. Listening to various musical forms, including Caribbean, African, Latin, Cuban, gospel, and jazz, he developed his own distinctive blend of blues and world music.
A self-taught musician, Taj plays more than 20 instruments, including the National Steel and Dobro guitars. His remarkable voice, which ranges from gruff and gravelly to smooth and sultry, has been enrapturing audiences for more than 40 years.
To date, Taj Mahal has received nine Grammy nominations and two wins. He walked away with the trophy for Best Contemporary Blues Album for Señor Blues (1997) and again for Shoutin' in Key (2000), both recorded with The Phantom Blues Band.
Famous for his musical collaborations, Taj has played with innumerable other musicians, everyone from Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters to Sheryl Crow and Eric Clapton. His excitement for music and musicians of all kinds is infectious. He's just as likely to create an album with Malian kora master Toumani Diabate as he is to appear onstage with jazz innovator Randy Weston.
Taj's composing credits include the score to the Langston Hughes/Zora Neale Hurston play Mule Bone (1991) as well as the films Sounder (1972), Brothers (1977), and Zebrahead (1992). Numerous other films have featured his music, and he has appeared in Sounder, Once Upon a Time…When We Were Colored (1995), Six Days, Seven Nights (1998), and Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (2002), to name a few.
Taj's music resonates as true today as it did in 1969. "From my vantage point," says the master musician, "my music talks about individuals being responsible for their own happiness. A lot of people think that blues music is gonna bring you down. Well, my music will never do that." |

Every once in a while an artist emerges to shake you from your seat and touch your soul with life affirming songs full of emotion. Singing as if it were the last time he would ever perform, savouring every moment. With a distinctive, cracked, soulful voice and a skill to write profound storytelling songs, Foy Vance belongs to a calibre of artists that stands the test of time, irrespective of trends or fads, delivering heartfelt songs about the human condition that everyone can relate to.
Gearing up for his debut EP release, 'Live Sessions and the Birth of the Toilet Tour' Foy Vance is ready to present his work to a wider audience (other than just him singing in the toilet!). In his humble way Foy says; 'My aim is to tour the world giving people hope for the most part, and living, loving, writing and recording for the rest…..I don't seek or care for stardom; what's important is music and its organic growth. Wherever this leads me I'm willing to accept as long as the integrity of what I do is uncompromised'.
In Foy's world nothing happens by accident, and it was in this manner that the people who launched Joss Stone (Brian Freshwater and Jacqueline Hughes) came across some of his recordings. 'The studio manager at Intimate Studios (Wapping) insisted that we listen to some tracks a new artist had been working on. Stunned by what we heard we went on a mission to track the man down', Brian says. 'When we first saw Foy playing live we knew he was the real deal. The way he communicates his wonderful poignant songs, with his astonishing, emotive soul voice just gives you goose bumps. We immediately recognised that this was an authentic artist with something special to convey'.
Now exclusively representing Foy and having set up WURDAMOUTHRecords with him to release his recordings, Freshwater Hughes Management are confident that the rest of the world will catch on and surrender to his extraordinary talent. Fast building a reputation on the live circuit in London, Foy has already secured a supporting slot on Canadian wonder-twins, Tegan and Sara's forthcoming London show at 100 Club and has now attracted the attention of blues legend Taj Mahal, who has invited Foy to perform on his UK tour later this month. |

One thing is true though, Hayseed Dixie have built up a huge reputation as a sensational live act since they formed in 2001. They don?t just to AC/DC covers - after their debut album sold over 100,000 copies worldwide, they went back into the studios to record some of their own songs. The result was "A Hillbilly Tribute to Mountain Love" an inspired exploration of one of the primary reasons for drinking, cheating, killing and going to hell. The next development in the career of Hayseed Dixie was hearing some songs by the band Kiss and realising they were kindred spirits. So in February 2003 they spent two inspired days in the recording studio to produce their third album "Kiss My Grass - A Hillbilly Tribute To Kiss." There followed a joint tour with Kerosene Brothers followed including over 100 shows all over the USA and Australia which included much heroic drinking. Feeling the need to plough some fresh fertile fields, the boys began to focus on getting to the UK and Europe. as well. Last year they released of "Let There Be Rockgrass" and the first UK tour took place. According to Hayseed Dixie, the full spectrum of hell was raised and "Rockgrass" became an international phenomena. Now they're back on tour in the UK again and as lead singer Barley Scotch says: "We ain't even started drinking yet. We've just been on a recon mission so far. Now we know where the party people around the world are, and we're coming back to close the deal! Hayseed Dixie are: Barley Scotch - singer, guitar & fiddle, Don Wayne Reno - banjo, Dale Reno - mandolin and Jason D. Smith - bass. Preview by Peter Ashton |

Alabama 3 know all about being outsiders. They've taken an outlaw approach since the day they first emerged from the free party scene to combine acid house with country and western. Across four deeply infectious, darkly humoured, lysergically charged albums they've made impossible musical collision sound as natural as the swamp, They've cheated death on the road to bring one of the most exhilarating live shows ever to have emerged from rehab. They've dropped subversive politics into sweet country verses and delivered sermons of love to the Godless masses. They've enriched and inspired the chemically charged underground through their counter-cultural, proto-situationist pursuits and, despite of, or perhaps because of all this, they've even provided the theme to the profoundly paranoiac Mafia (outlaw) series "Sopranos". Oh yes, Alabama 3 may come on like Irvine Welsh's house band stalking the gutters of ghetto culture, but they infiltrate the corridors of the mainstream just as easily. Like any good counter-cultural, proto-situationist country and western techno outlaw band from Brixton in fact.

A campfire at the Stonehenge free festival in 1984 witnessed the birth of Ozric Tentacles. It was there that synth player Joie Hinton, stumbled upon brothers Ed Wynne (guitar) and Roly Wynne (bass), performing in a band known at the time as Bolshem People, along with Gavin Griffiths and drummer Nick 'Tig' Van Gelder (Jamiroquai). From that very first jam session, a musical compatibility was evoked that has since been a trademark of the Ozric Tentacles. It's a signature blend of hippy aesthetics and raver electronics with spiralling guitars, textured waves of keyboard and midi samplers, and supergroovy bass and drum rhythms.
In
the beginning there was a band called The Misunderstood.
Taking their name from a character in Leslie Thomas' "Virgin
Soldiers" Juicy Lucy were aiming to move away from the psychedelic
sound of The Misunderstood to something more contemporary and commercial.
Well, they certainly got that right with the first single from the
self titled debut album. "Who Do You Love?", a cover of a
Bo Diddley song, stamped it's way up the singles charts in the UK and
several European countries in the spring of 1970, finally reaching
number 14 in the UK and staying on the chart for three months. The
album cover itself caused quite a stir, featuring as it did a woman
lying naked, surrounded (and modesty preserved) by fruit!
Criminals.
Ian's ever-expanding itinerary now includes many of the major European festivals as well as regular dates at notable venues to include the internationally renowned 'Ronnie Scott's' and 'House of Live', Paris. Whilst serving his apprenticeship on the European Blues/Rock circuit Ian has shared the stage with none other than Eric Clapton, opening a show for the guitar legend in London, December 2002.
"a unique blend of blues, soul, gospel and funk . . . . . . ." THE TIMES – Oct 2002

Well, my music will never do that."
According
to the sleeve notes for the first Hayseed Dixie album, "A Hillbilly
Tribute To AC/DC" their interest in AC/DC started when they found a
collection of AC/DC records in the valley of Deer Lick Holler in the Appalachian
mountains of the USA, where a stranger had crashed in his car and expired. They
could only play the records at 78 rpm on an old Edison Victrola player, but the
boys all agreed that it was mighty fine country music. Well, if you believe
that, you?ll believe anything!
