Band Pic It's over 20 years since Scottish singer Alex Harvey died of a heart attack, but he and his unique rock outfit The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, are still warmly remembered. Their back catalogue has been reissued on CD, and some of their "Old Grey Whistle Test" appearances have been captured on DVD, notably their classic renditions of "Next" and "Delilah."

So we're glad to welcome The Sensational Alex Harvey Band to The Brook, without Alex of course, but with original members Zal Cleminson, Chris Glen, Hugh McKenna and Ted McKenna. Augmented by vocalist Max Maxwell they are still a cracking band. Their history will be familiar to dedicated SAHB fans - they were called Tear Gas when Alex linked up with them in the late 60s, already feted as the best prog rock band in Scotland. Following is a reminder of the inidividual members of SAHB:

Zal Cleminson - Utterly self-taught and driven purely by emotion, he's the guy who donned the harlequin costume and white face makeup in the 70s. His thundering guitar solos are legendary. But at heart he's a remarkably quiet and thoughtful man.

Chris Glen is everyone's idea of a true rock star. He's larger than life in size and character, and behind his giant bass is a giant heart and passion for living. Chris is the life and soul of the party, from near-fatal car crashes to flying off stage on a skateboard, his life has been one long rollercoaster.

Hugh McKenna was musically closest to Alex, and their creative partnership was at once rewarding and devastating. Hugh's proud of his piano playing and songwriting, and referred to his parents' background in music hall entertainment to help develop Alex's vision of a genre-encompassing rock show. His own experiences of excess and over-indulgence led directly to hospitalisation - but fortunately he came out the other side.

Ted McKenna the drummer with the band. He is Hugh's cousin and began his musical career with Hugh. The business of creating noise with feeling is one he takes very seriously, to the extent of taking hours over perfecting the sound of each of his drums or losing the rag with bandmates.

Max Maxwell was recruited in 2002 when SAHB reunited to perform in a tribute concert to Glasgow rocker Frankie Miller. With a background in a variety of bands, improvisational songwriting before audiences, performing physical comedy with The Shamen and stage set design, he has proved to be the ideal frontman.

You can read more about the band members in a book written by their manager Martin Kielty, a former journalist. " SAHB Story" is available through the official SAHB website.

Band Pic Interview by Peter Ashton FEE WAYBILL is alive and well and living in Los Angeles. I caught up with the manic Tubes frontman by phone to talk about the highs and lows of life on the road with The Tubes, the rock world's most controversial and theatrical band during the 70s and 80s, his songwriting and acting careers, and his forthcoming British tour with The Tubes.

I started by suggesting that The Tubes never actually made any money in their heyday between 1975. and 1986. "We made shit loads of money," said Fee good-humouredly, "it's just that we spent it all! We were just enjoying ourselves - we'd go out on tour and make $4 million, then find the tour had cost $5m. We were putting on a show; at one time we had 28 or 30 people on the road with the seven band members - seven dancers, a choreographer, a pyrotechnics guy, a backdrop technician - it just got bigger and bigger. But we didn't care, we were having a good time. Finally it just came to a crashing end - we released the album "Love Bomb" - a disaster record - and came back off the road with just our dicks in our hand! Our record company dropped us and it was time to call it a day."

Fee relocated from San Francisco to Los Angeles - "I had to get out of town fast, man," is how he puts it - apparently the rest of The Tubes were not too happy about his walking out on them. Once established in Los Angeles, Fee started another career as a songwriter. He began collaborating with Canadian singer Richard Marx who was married to former Tubes dancer Cynthia Rhodes, with considerable success. Richard Marx also co-wrote and performed on Fee's second solo album, "Don't Be Scared Of These Hands" in 1996. Fee went on to write for other performers and even enjoyed an entry in the US country charts not too long ago with Richard Marx on "Last One Standing." But the charismatic Mr Waybill also had other irons in the fire. He had already made his acting debut playing a rock singer in "Xanadu" in 1980 and in "Ladies & Gentlemen,The Fabulous Stains" in 1981. Returning to the screen in a cameo role in "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" in 1989, and also appearing in three more films as a singer it looked like a movie career beckoned. It didn't but a stage acting career did. "I seemed to get psycho parts mainly," laughed Fee, "I played in John Godber's "Bouncers" at La Lamarada Theatre in Orange County, and back in 1999 I played Frank 'N' Furter in "The Rocky Horror Show" at The Barn Theatre in Michigan, the oldest for-profit theatre in the USA. That was great - it was so much fun playing for a bunch of blue-haired old ladies! It's a really waspy community, very prejudiced, and it was great to see the looks on their faces."

The Tubes eventually got back together in 1997 and their spectacular rock burlesque act has been welcomed back all over the world. Old favourites like "White Punks On Dope" and "Mondo Bondage" are as popular as ever, and the band have started writing new material for a new album. "We're producing it ourselves and It's nice to be able to take our time over it - we never got to do that before," says Fee.

When not working in his roles as songwriter, frontman for The Tubes and stage actor, Fee relaxes by playing polo. "I was brought up with horses in Nebraska," said Fee, "and my brother got me into playing polo some years ago after I quit playing softball. I've got two polo ponies, but I don't play too aggressively, I love my ponies too much. But I have been hurt severely several times. One time I was flipped and pinched a nerve in my neck - I was completely fucked for about two months!"

Before signing the interview Fee was patient enough to answer a question that had been on my mind for years - where did the name Fee Waybill come from? "Waybill is my real surname," he explained (a website I visited had said his surname was Waldo) "and Fee is a nickname. When I first started singing with The Tubes one of the guys saw a photo of the King of Fiji on the front of a National Geographic Magazine and thought I looked like him. So all the guys started calling me Fiji and it eventually got shortened to Fee. Waybill, in fact has UK connections - my father's forebears came from Brighton in Sussex, and I think Waybill is a seafaring name, a waybill is a receipt for a cargo, so Fee and Waybill seemed to go together." Martyn Joseph

Passionate Spiritual Singer Songwriter

Band Pic

Acoustic artist Martyn Joseph? Not just what it says on the tin.

Another guitar laden singer songwriter he may be, but in these transient times where musicians have a seemingly inevitable disposability, the longevity of Martyn's thirty year career suggests he has something special to offer, and indeed he most definitely does.

For the first time in fifteen years, the "Under Lemonade Skies" UK tour earlier this year saw Martyn Joseph joined onstage by a live band. Following the success of this tour Martyn has chosen to include some Band performances in the forthcoming Autumn tour, and as The Brook is one of Martyn's favourite venues in the Uk, he's looking forward to them joining him onstage at the show.

A Martyn Joseph Band gig is something very special. There's all the passion and polish of Martyn's solo gigs but bassist Andrew Coughlan and drummer Mason Neely (both stalwarts of the Cerys Matthews Band) add a whole new dimension with their superb yet sensitive playing enhancing Martyn's performance but leaving him all the space he needs. Furthermore, Martyn clearly enjoys sharing the stage with the other two musicians, so a Martyn Joseph Band gig is not only musically uplifting, but enormous fun too!

Often likened to musicians such as Bruce Springsteen, John Mayer and Bruce Cockburn, Martyn's come a long way since the days when Epic signed him after he sold 30,000 copies of his self-financed album ‘An Aching and A Longing'. He continues to tour extensively on both sides of the Atlantic, building up a constantly expanding and enthusiastic fan base, bringing to their towns what many have described as ‘the best musical experience of their lives.'

There is versatility to Martyn's music that is hard to categorise. Many have tried, resulting in labels such as Folk, Rock, Soul, Folk Funk and Americana; all of which somehow miss the mark. But sometimes music doesn't need a defining genre. Martyn's music and social commentary manage to empower and speak for many. Built around memories and observations alike, his work is inspired by all that's good in the world and also that with which society often falls short.

Martyn Joseph. A unique talent driven by passion and love for his trade, he continues to write, sing and play from the heart. It's a road he's been travelling for most of his life and as he often tells his audience; ‘you keep turning up and so will I.'

Just when you think you've got a handle on singer songwriters, along comes Martyn Joseph to blow the myth away.....

In a year that marks 31 years in the business, Martyn proves that there's nothing predictable about his gigs – only that they can make you laugh, cry, get you thinking, leave you reeling.

An acoustic artist with an electrifying spontaneity, this colossally gifted and gracious Welshman has five Top 50 hits to his name (including Dolphins Make Me Cry and Please Sir) and has been in demand on both sides of the Atlantic for over two decades. Touring both solo and with the likes of Ani DiFranco, Art Garfunkel and Jools Holland he has won fans everywhere with his uncanny melting pot of material which ranges from rock to blues, jazz, Americana and even, "funk folk"!

A mean guitar player with a powerful voice, Bob Harris has praised the "outstanding lyrical intelligence" of his songs while he was voted Best Male Artist in the BBC Welsh Music Awards.

Shades of Springsteen, John Mayer and Bruce Cockburn there may be - but Joseph is unique and no two shows are ever the same.

He has an enviable high level connectivity with his audience whether it's an arts centre in his native Wales or a 5,000 strong crowd at the Royal Albert Hall. His gigs are like taking a rollercoaster ride with a chameleon as he dips and dives between mighty and meek songs, railing against the broken promise playground of global leaders, throwing in some wry humour, holding tight to common man anthems and then "disarming" for unexpectedly fragile love songs that can knock you sideways.

It might be just another evening when you go in to a Martyn Joseph concert – but it certainly won't be when you come out.....

"Britain's best kept secret…..a challenging songwriter and compelling and courageous live performer – MOJO

"He is one of our most intelligent writers. He gets better and better like the finest of wines" - Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2

"Songs of social commentary as much as love, with a rootsy sensibility" – Time Out

"A depth, resonance and emotional punch which belies comparison" – Q

"One of the most charismatic and electrifying performers in Britain today" –Tom Robinson, BBC 6

Band PicTwo towering figures in the history of reggae play this unique double bill to celebrate Ariwa records 25th anniversary. Regarded with awe throughout the music world, Lee 'Scratch' Perry holds status as one of the most enduring and original reggae producers and artists of all time. From his early days in the 1960's as a singer and engineer for Coxsone Dodd's Studio One in Kingston, through his production of the seminal Wailers' classics, African Herbsman and Soul Revolution, Perry's innovative style marks him as one of reggae's original treasures. His on the edge creative genius remains evident in his own solo albums of the 1970s and through his steady stream of mind-boggling releases of the 1980s. One of reggae's undisputed pioneers, Lee 'the Upsetter' Perry has worked with almost everyone from The Heptones to The Skatalites to The Clash. Certainly one of his most notable contributions was the pairing of Bob Marley to Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer with the Barnet Brothers (Carley and 'Familyman' who had been the heart of the Perry's group, The Upsetters) and thus the forming of the Bob Marley and the Wailers. After his own studio, Black Ark, burned to the ground in the late 1970's, Perry laid low for a while, only to resurface with a vengeance in England in the mid-1980s. He went back into the studio with a variety of partners, from Adrian Sherwood to Terence Trent D'Arby. Lee Perry has collaborated with Mad Professor since 1983 and has recorded a number of released and un-released albums. Lee has embarked on many tours with Mad Professor & The Robotiks. They have played all over Europe, Japan, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Argentina, Mexico. Perry is perhaps the only 70 year old that can dance on one leg for one hour straight! Veba

Veba is a singer from Old Trafford in Manchester, UK. She has lent her soulful vocals to a number of tracks on the Grand Central Records independent record label, primarily on Rae & Christian's albums and Mark Rae's solo albums, but she has also appeared on releases by Only Child, Tony D, Fingathing and J-Walk.

In 2005, a compilation of all of her Grand Central performances was released entitled Veba Vs Grand Central. (Wikipedia ::)

Kid Carpet

Kid Carpet ::

Kid Carpet releases the third and final single from his much praised 'Ideas And Oh Dears' album.  Kid Carpet has been responsible for some noteworthy firsts in the history of rock, his first single was the first to feature a solo from a Furby, this single is the first to tackle the weighty issue of thinking it will rain so going out wearing a coat only to have to carry it around all day in a carrier bag when the sun comes out. His brand new video makes this point in style with an sexy synchronised dance routine, see it here.

The Kid has had an eventful summer, being for many the surprise hit of some of the festivals. His sets in the Lost Vagueness field at Glastonbury, at V and Bestival particularly stick out. Carpet has continued his busy live schedule recently supporting the likes of Art Brut and The Go Team. He will continue on the road to the end of the year with his biggest tour to date through November/December. He supports Acoustic Ladyland at ULU on 11th November with an exclusive DJ set at the Tired And Lonesome Records party at Old Blue Last on November 12th before starting the tour in earnest on 15th at Glasgow King Tuts.

Carrier Bag will come with some exclusive b-sides. The single comes with a new track 'How To Turn Down Work' along with a club banger remix of 'Carrier Bag' called 'Party Bag'. It sounds like a warehouse party in Pontefract. There is also the first 2 instalments of the Kid Carpet pop quiz. The Kid has recorded miniature versions of some of his favourite pop and metal tunes in his own inimitable style on toy instruments that cost about £2. The first two instalments are included here as b-sides with further tracks to be made available on his website. The winner of the competition will win 'a crap prize'.

Carrier Bag is released November 14th on Tired And Lonesome. Kid Carpet will be touring in Novembe/December.

Part Time Heroes (DJ Set) (Bah - No Dylan!)

Part Time Heroes ::

Giles Peterson Hot Tip! " They come across as a kind of jazzier Zero 7... ...feelin that... ... highly rate them, watch out for them." Giles Peterson - Radio One

The Part Time Heroes are two undisclosed young musicians currently residing in the leafy suburbs of Southampton. Although their names are not known to the masses, their music soon will be, as this part-time shop assistant and part-time sandwich deliveryman, plan to convert their part-time music careers into full-time employment.

Both heroes have a deep history in a variety of genres, sharing influences from Miles Davis to Bob Marley to The Clash, and both now share the same landlord. For various reasons the duo found themselves sharing a flat together at the turn of 2005 and after many late night conversations, lengthy musical debates and story-telling sessions, the duo that had now become good friends decided it was only right to combine their two studios. The short move from each other's respected bedrooms to the 'the lounge' took place and a new production partnership was born. It was quick, natural and 'felt right' and the next ten months have taken them to the brink of breaking through.

Having drawn comparisons to Portishead, St.Germain and even Groove Armada, there is no question that the Heroes debut album (in progress) is an exciting, eclectic and fresh journey over different tempos, incorporating live instrumentation, deep jazz roots and organic soul nourishing goodness. April 2005 saw the duo invite a selection of close friends/local accomplished musicians to their front room to bring that 'live' touch to their recordings. Live drums, flute, keys, double bass and horn section were thrown into the mix and over the coming months vocalists including new-comers Jono McCleery, Lucy Kitchen, Nate James and Laura Vane would drop by to indulge in late night song writing sessions and recording.

Having held their music down, working away juggling day job's, they've manage to contribute music to an recent MTV advert plus remixing the likes of MJ Cole, Yungun, Mosaic and Instrumental (Big Chill Recordings). The Double award winning 'BBC Jazz Artist of The Year 2005' Liane Carroll has also contributed her jaw dropping vocals to their album and Radio 1's worldwide tastemaker Giles Peterson who's supported them on his show, recently described them as a 'Jazzier Zero 7' and went on to say 'I highly rate them, watch out for them'. With eclectic DJ sets and an exciting live show 'ready to go', things are looking up for our part-time shop boy and sandwich deliveryman. If the hype's anything to go by ? then maybe their days of BLT's and cheese and tomato rolls could be numbered. All I know is after hearing their music and meeting them in person these Heroes 'won't stop till their work is done'.

Band PicAs you will know, Glenn Tilbrook is an exceptional song writer and musician who shot to world fame with one of the best bands to come out of Britain, Squeeze.

Tilbrook shows have the feel of a big rock concert. Enjoy a terrific atmosphere, great crowd, a few pints and lots of good humour. He is  highly entertaining and crams loads of songs into the set including Squeeze classics and yes, he may sing your song, if you ask him.

Glenn has been singing, playing and writing songs for many years.  Squeeze have recorded 13 albums to date and many, many singles - most of which have been hits of some kind: some very big, some very small. More than this, however, Glenn Tilbrook and Squeeze have become synonymous with a particularly London oriented style of high quality pop song that bears comparison with the classic songs of Ray Davies and The Kinks - not to mention more recent contenders such as Blur and Supergrass.

The first hit single, "Take Me I'm Yours", came in 1978 and was followed by a steady stream of hits, many of which have passed into the canon of pop folklore and will surely be sung in pub singalongs as long as pub singalongs exist. Outside of Squeeze, Glenn has played and sung on records by Elvis Costello and Aimee Mann and on Mark Knopfler's solo album.  Songs he has co-written with Chris Difford have been covered by the likes of Sting, Joe Cocker and Grandmaster Flash.

Band Pic For a huge army of fans around the world, the classic line-up of Whitesnake which recorded albums such as 'Ready An' Willing', 'Live In The Heart Of The City' and 'Come An' Get it' was the definitive rock band of the late 70s and early 80s. There is something unique about the combination of musicians who built Whitesnake's success that cannot be replicated, and the songs that they wrote and recorded together are still incredibly popular. The bluesy twin guitars of Bernie Marsden and Micky Moody, together with bassist Neil Murray, are back together in a new band, M3 - Classic Whitesnake, to perform the songs that took Whitesnake to the stadiums of the world. They are joined by well known guest musicians, including the incredible vocals of Stefan Bergrren, best known for his work with Company of Snakes and Snakes in Paradise, Jimmy Copley on drums from Paul Rodger's and Tony Iommi's band and on keyboards Mark Stanway (Magnum, Grand Slam) among others. Rock anthems like 'Ain't No love In The Heart Of The City', 'Here I Go Again', 'Don't Break My Heart Again' and 'Fool For Your Loving' are just some of the many classic Whitesnake songs that M3 - Classic Whitesnake perform, with full audience participation expected! The concept behind M3 is to build on the foundations of the original Whitesnake members by experimenting with other top players, including guest appearances from other early contributors to the Whitesnake story (they were joined on stage by Don Airey in London, earlier this year). The touring band consists of: Bernie Marsden (guitar/vocals) was a founder member of Whitesnake but his career also includes stints with UFO, Wild Turkey, Cozy Powell, Babe Ruth, PAL, Alaska, Moody Marsden, and recently the Company of Snakes. He has done song writing, production and session work for many acts, and outside of M3 Bernie leads his blues band, Big Boy Blue.

Micky Moody (guitar/vocals)is best known for his role in the definitive Whitesnake line-up, though his vast and varied career has included working with Juicy Lucy, Snafu, Graham Bonnet, Frankie Miller, Chris Farlowe, Roger Chapman, Moody Marsden Band and Company of Snakes.

Neil Murray was also an original member of Whitesnake, playing on 8 albums and many tours, and is one of the most experienced bass guitarists in rock, recording and touring with bands and musicians such as Brian May, Black Sabbath, Gary Moore, Company of Snakes and Peter Green just to mention a few. He also is in the band for the hit musical We Will Rock You.

Stefan Bergrren (vocals) was the awesome voice of Company of Snakes and Snakes in Paradise during the late 90s. Stefan has been compared with iconic vocalists such as Paul Rogers.

Jimmy Copley (drums) is a fantastically powerful and funky drummer who is best known for touring and recording with artists such as Paul Rodgers, Tony Iommi, Ian Gillan and Jeff Beck. In the words of Bernie, "Jimmy drives the band like no other drummer since Cozy Powell or Ian Paice. He is exceptional."

Mark Stanway is the keyboard backbone to long established prog-rockers, Magnum and during the 1980's he regularly topped 'best keyboardist' polls, coming third to the likes of Jon Lord and Don Airey. Listen to M3 live with your eyes closed and you would be forgiven for believing you were listening to Jon Lord and Ian Paice on stage with the M3 boys! M3 will also be promoting a forthcoming live DVD recorded in the summer of 2004, featuring both Stefan and Doogie White (ex-Rainbow singer) on vocals. This an an existing live album will be available from the bands website.

Band PicLIMEHOUSE LIZZY - THE GREATEST HITS OF PHIL LYNOTT & THIN LIZZY

Renowned for an action-packed pyrothechnic-fuelled explosion of a show, Limehouse Lizzy continue to keep the spirit of Celtic rock icon Philip Lynott and his band Thin Lizzy alive, well and dominating stages worldwide.

Band PicAttention to detail, playful audience interaction and that all important X-factor that leaves you with the feeling of witnessing the real thing have led to their performance being described as "beyond tribute", by both audience and critics alike.

Following the enormous success of their ˜Live & Dangerous" & ˜Dedication" tours, the band embarked upon their "Into the Limelight" 2008 tour to tie in with their appearance on an episode of BBC2's 'Arena' documentary series of the same name. The tour travelled as far as a headline slot at the Rhodes Rock festival in Greece, and the Virgin Atlantic Music festival in Barbados. The band appeared alongside diverse world music acts, and played a Thin Lizzy set representing the celtic rock genre.

Their latest tour continues to explore and celebrate the artistic and musical legacy of the hard-living, hard-rocking, yet at times surprisingly tender and romantic artist that was Philip Lynott.

Expect Celtic influenced tracks like "Whisky in the Jar" and "Black Rose", amongst the usual razzamatazz and classic tracks "The Boys are Back in Town", "Sarah" and many others we've come to expect from one of the most highly rated acts on the circuit.

QUOTES

Band Pic G2. Definitive Genesis performed live, perfectly and with passion. The seed of G2 can be traced back to 1997 and they truly capture the sound, energy and atmosphere of Genesis with fervour and sincere feeling. This is an incredible tribute. You have got to be a little mad (some would say insane) about music to create a tribute band like this.

Genesis were arguably the most layered and complex definers of the progressive rock sound. So recreating their sound as accurately as possible is a big challenge. G2 likes a challenge and this project continues to stretch them in all areas.

What is their Ultimate Aim? To provide the audience with the real deal; to deliver the music as accurately as possible, but with live energy. To recreate the visual atmospherics - the 'goose pimple effect'. To deliver a magical evening of Genesis music that levels the floor for one and all.

Band PicNow, with the passing of Rick Wright in 2008 there will sadly never be the reunion that we all hoped for, but the music is timeless and will live on for many more years to come. How many 60's bands today are still attracting new and often young fans 40 years on?

Today, there are many bands trying to emulate this music, the most outstanding by far being Perfect Alibi. Founded in 1990 the hampshire based band have been described as "the definitive Pink Floyd tribute."

When Dave Blake (lead guitar) formed the band they were playing covers of classic rock songs by Pink Floyd, Marillion, Eagles, Neil Young and more. Being huge Floyd fans themselves and from the reaction and requests from the audiences, more and more of there songs crept their way in to the set until it got difficult to mix other material in. Realising this, a concert was staged in a theatre as a tester and Perfect Alibi emerged as a totally dedicated Pink Floyd tribute.

With Perfect Alibi, you have the chance to hear Pink Floyd songs as they are meant to be heard. The band are now widely respected and appreciated in their field, giving the audience a truly authentic reproduction of the music of Pink Floyd. With the emphasis on capturing the live Pink Floyd sound. With well over 40 songs in their repertoire, spectacular lighting/lasers/projections, this is a show not to be missed!

But don't take our word for it... judge for yourselves. You won't be disappointed!

Band Pic"...Cover bands are big business these days, but this quartet are clearly a cut above most with suits, mop-tops and jerking stage manoeuvres all in place as they blast out 'From Me To You', 'Roll Over Beethoven' and 'Please, Please Me' with note-perfect aplomb."

The Daily Telegraph.

There seems to be two different methods employed by tribute bands in copying their heroes. One is to immerse themselves totally in character, become the band. The other is to still do this, but do it with tongue very much in cheek. So how to interpret the greatest pop group of all time? The Silver Beatles go for option B, not taking themselves too seriously and this approach definitely works for them. They indulge in banter among themselves and with the crowd, making the most out of the fact that every Beatle is instantly recognisable. The first half of the gig is the young Beatles, suits and mop tops, covering all the early hits; 'Saw her standing there, Can't buy me love' among others before finishing on 'Twist and Shout'. Then it's a quick break and costume change where they miraculously transform into the older, hippie era Beatles; the period where they wrote some of their finest songs. Just point non-believers to songs like 'In my life' and 'Let it be' which show, more so than the early years, why the Beatles are still held in such esteem. Not that anyone here needed convincing. The 500 plus crowd, arms held aloft, nah-nah-nah-ing during the encore of 'Hey Jude'. Nope, no non-believers were present.

The BOG ROLLING STONES have earned a reputation as one of the most authentic sounding tribute acts around. Satisfaction's always guaranteed when these long haired boys come home to the Brook!

Their tongue in cheek humour, wigs, stripy trousers and boundless energy make them an act not to be missed. The question is.....would you let your daughter go???

Band Pic"2 tonic arrived on stage and lifted the atmosphere up a few more notches until at one stage it seemed as though every person in the room was dancing at the same time. Even the people stood around the edges seemed to be bouncing up and down, whether they wanted to or not. Humberside seismic investigators later recorded a disturbance registering 3.2 on the Richter scale."

Band PicTime to dance the night away with the band who make every gig a party night! Those that have followed the band will know that the Rufus Stone Soul Band, based in their home town of Southampton, has been around in many guises since their start in late 1984. After all this time you would expect that some of the sparkle would have gone, not a bit. They still have the same distinctive sound, which ensures that they get the maximum involvement from their audience.

Over the years they have built a loyal following and it is this support that has kept the band not only on the road but still as soulful as when they started. The music is authentic soul with selections from The Blues Brothers and The Commitments, but the bulk of the set comes from the soul greats such as Otis Redding, James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Joe Tex and many others.

During their time together there have been a number of highlights that include support to some of the top soul artists like Jimmy Ruffin, Edwin Starr, Curtis Mayfield, Geno Washington, Ben E King, and Gloria Gaynor.
