Geno WashingtonSoul IncarnateOh Geno! A man so gifted Dexys Midnight Runners even wrote a song about him. Don't miss this one! |
|
||||||
Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band had two of thebiggest selling U.K. albums of the sixties. Amazingly both of these were live albums. Hand Clappin', Foot Stompin', Funky Butt Live was in the album charts for 48 out of 52 weeks in 1966, only The Sound of Music and Bridge Over Troubled Water sold more copies that year. His level of touring and the high energy of his gigs was, and still is the stuff of legends (as further immortalized by the 80's hit Geno! recorded by Dexy's Midnight Runners). During his sets the beat was continuous with almost every song segueing into the next. Hit followed hit, the beat was continuous and the soul audiences could not get enough of him. With the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Cream and Pink Floyd as your warm up bands the pressure was always on.
Although he did dabble in the studio with the likes of The Beach Boys, Geno was starting to ask himself, 'What was it all about'. Consequently most of the seventies were spent reflecting on the sixties; rock 'n' roll, Vietnam, peace, love and life in general and Geno became, what he calls a student of the mind. He studied various forms of meditation and hypnotism (not many people know that Geno is an excellent speaker and a member of the Guild of Hypnotists). Such spiritual meanderings were abruptly halted though when, in 1980 Geno! (the Dexy's hit) went to number one in the UK charts. Dexy's singer Kevin Roland was talking in interviews of a mythical sixties soul performer who ravaged the land to the chants of Geno! Geno! Geno! to a new generation and offers of tours and appearances eventually persuaded our soul man to head back to Blighty and back on the road. |

Crimes of Passion |
Tyketto was one of the best and most underrated radio friendly rock bands of the rock genre. They were never able to reach the massive success they so deserved, with their brand of hook heavy AOR sung with majestic vocals, mainly due to the Grunge explosion.
A brief reunion in 2004 saw Tyketto reconnect with all their original fan base, and since that date, Tyketto have played odd dates around the world, filling in the gaps between the individual members other working schedules. And the world took solace in 2 of the greatest records of a generation.............until....... .............Under cover of darkness, surrounded by secret service agents who were sworn to take a bullet for any and all of them, Brooke, Michael and Danny got together in Las Vegas. Not only did they have a great time, but they started writing together! In no more than one week, they came away with 8 new song ideas that they are all very pleased with, and that will form the basis of a brand new Tyketto album, their first with the original line-up since 1991's Don't Come Easy! So, if you want to hear all the classics, along with some brand new Tyketto material, The Brook is the place to be! |

The HamstersJimi Hendrix + ZZ Top Show Live performers of renown. |
|
|||||
The guitar, bass and drums trio The Hamsters have long been established as our premier blues-rock attraction, having performed 4,000 concerts in 21 years. Although usually playing their own brand of rootsy Rock, Blues and Americana - tonight they'll be performing 2 sets of Jimi Hendrix and ZZ Top songs, for which they're also widely regarded as being the UK's leading interpreters. The band's guitarist/singer Slim has a new interview coming up in Guitarist magazine shortly, and the lads are also appearing in a new 3-hour DVD documentary about the Fender Stratocaster titled 'Strat Masters'. Players featured in the film are Ry Cooder, Mark Knopfler, Jeff Beck, Chris Rea, Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch, Robert Cray and Rory Gallagher among others. "They're fabulous: one of Britain's very best live bands" - Bob Harris, Radio 2 "Nobody does the music of Jimi Hendrix and ZZ Top better (except the real ZZ Top)" – The Times OK People - below are 1000 reasons to come and see the Hamsters before you die - if you don't come - we kill you - ha ha!Our guitarist Slim's being interviewed again in a forthcoming edition of Guitarist magazine, street date 28th September. We've just released a new 3-hour double live DVD, titled 'Curse Of The Killer Hamsters!' The lads are appearing in a new three-hour DVD documentary about the Fender Stratocaster titled 'Strat Masters' Among some of the players featured in the film are Ry Cooder, Mark Knopfler, Jeff Beck, Chris Rea, Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch, Robert Cray and Rory Gallagher. The makers have also filmed at the USA and Japanese Fender factories. The track 'Taxi Driver' from our latest album 'Open All Hours' has been included in Classic Rock magazine's '100 Blues Anthems'. We were recently mentioned on BBC1's 'Bargain Hunt' programme... we thought it was weird too.... Our second session for Paul Jones' Radio 2 Blues show was broadcast. We released a new 1-hour studio album, titled 'Open All Hours' We also released a 2-hour concert film on DVD, titled 'To Infirmity, and Beyond!'. We performed a series of open-air shows as special guests to Status Quo. We currently receive an average exceeding 1,000 visitors a day to our website. We've been voted the UK's best blues-rock band by the readers of Blueprint magazine. We contributed a track for inclusion in the BBC Radio 2 series "Bright Lights, Big City". It documents the story of British Rhythm and Blues from the fifties to the modern day. It's presented by former Rolling Stone Bill Wyman. We recently conducted an interview for the Sunday Express, and were also the week's featured concert in The Times 'Play' section. A member of Natalie Imbruglia's band was spotted wearing one of our t-shirts on an appearance on Graham Norton's show on Channel 4. We performed at 2003,4,5,6 & 7's London Guitar Show at the Wembley entertainment complex, attended by over 15,000 guitar players - aspiring and professional alike. From the hinterlands of the Thames River Delta come THE HAMSTERS:Now in their twenty-first year together, having performed 4,000 concerts and with a national mailing list exceeding 20,000, the Hamsters are established as the UK's premier blues-rock attraction. This has been achieved purely by hard work with the band handling all their own affairs, thereby disproving the popular misconception that it can't be done without major-label "muscle". The Hamsters have been voted one of the UK's best unsigned bands by Kerrang magazine. (We already have a record deal, but it's a nice compliment). Even BBC's Top Gear magazine recognises the band as the UK's hardest working, and featured them in an article on in-car entertainment, the Hamsters being the ideal people to ask as they're always travelling somewhere. Although primarily performing their own brand of material, they are also widely regarded as our leading interpreters of the music of Jimi Hendrix and more recently ZZ Top. Originally forming for their own amusement (and taking their name from the Sex Pistols, who once used it as a pseudonym to outwit hostile councils), the Hamsters enjoy the irony of being an aggressive band with a cuddly name. Although serious about what they do, they don't take themselves too seriously. Members have performed with artists such as Eric Clapton, Alison Moyet, Doctor Feelgood, Walter Trout and the late, great gentleman of British Blues, Alexis Korner. World Champion Formula 1 driver Damon Hill is a fan, and was spotted wearing a Hamsters tee shirt at the Hungarian Grand Prix! Slim has been voted one of the top 100 guitarists of all time in a radio poll on LBC . Our version of Hendrix's "Voodoo Chile" has been used in an edition of BBC TV's Top Gear. Slim is featured in a book called "17 Watts? The First 20 Years Of British Rock Guitar", talking about his early musical experiences alongside Eric Clapton, Gary Moore, George Harrison and David Gilmour. The band's album "The Jimi Hendrix Memorial Concerts" was rated Album Of The Month in Germany's leading musicians' magazine, "Guitar and Bass". Their version of Bob Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower" is included on an album of Dylan cover versions, featuring artists such as Bryan Ferry, Joe Cocker, The Byrds and many others, released throughout Europe by Polygram in '93. Slim was interviewed for the Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison editions of "Mojo Working", a Channel 4 TV series broadcast through Summer '92 documenting the most influential figures in popular music. Slim also writes for Guitarist magazine when he has time, and was featured talking about his equipment(!) in the September '94 edition of Guitar Techniques magazine. He has also been included in the "Guitarist Magazine Book of Guitar Players", published in '94. In addition, Guitar Techniques has asked Slim to contribute a recorded lesson on how to play the Blues each month, for inclusion on the CD which accompanies every issue. The band have been interviewed and filmed live by MTV Europe and German national TV, as well as being featured in session and interview on Radio One for Bob Harris and Johnny Walker, Radio Two for Paul Jones, for GLR in London, B.F.B.S in mainland Europe and Dutch national radio. Early in '95, the band released ROUTE 666 which entered the New Musical Express chart at number 7. The Observer newspaper even pinched the idea from the CD booklet, for the cover of a colour supplement! Photographs for the album were taken by the celebrated snapper, Gered Mankowitz, who is especially known for his seminal photographs of Hendrix and the Stones, among many other Rock icons. The Hamsters are: Slim — Guitar, Singer / Rev. Otis — Drums, Sings a bit / Zsa Zsa — Bass, Sings a bit |

Maybe WinehouseAwesome tribute to Amy WinehouseOur 'Amy' is more likely to actually show up, be sober and play a full set.
|
|
|||||
Maybe Winehouse has wowed audiences across the UK and Europe at numerous Student Unions, Clubs, Theatres and Festivals with a vibrant set list including all the Amy Winehouse classics with some up tempo ska and soul covers which guarantees a good old singalong and dance. With a 5 piece backing band consisting of Drums, Keys, Lead Guitar, Bass Guitar and Saxophone, this fully live show recreates the distinctive jazzy sounds of an Amy gig with a singer that won't be slurring her words and forgetting the lyrics (too much!). The recreation of Amy's distinctive vocals and mannerisms is exceptional and as you can see by the photo, Rachel Rabin who plays the role has an amazing resemblence to the woman herself. We hope you enjoy the Maybe Winehouse experience! |

Max Cavalera - throat & guitar The Soulfly tribe is once again on the warpath.
Since their Gold-certified, self-titled debut in 1997, Soulfly have remained one of the genre's most consistently brutal outfits. From the moment Max Cavalera left Sepultura to form Soulfly, he's remain With Conquer, Soulfly take no prisoners. Max explains, "It's definitely Soulfly's most battle-ready record by far. The vibe reminds me of movies like Gladiator and 300. It comes from a completely different place." The assault kicks off from the first note of "Bood Fire War Hate," and it doesn't stop until the end of closing instrumental, "Soulfly VI," which is a time-honored tradition the marks the close of each Soulfly album. Starting with "Blood fire War Hate," Max made a conscious decision to come out of the gates with all guns blazing, proclaiming, "I'm excited to open the record with a fast song. Usually Soulfly albums begin mid-tempo, but this reminds me of Beneath the Remains. This song also has one of the biggest hooks I've ever done. I can close my eyes and picture huge festival crowds singing it. When the fast part comes in, it's just war." Soulfly's previous albums featured guest appearances by notables, including Chino Moreno of Deftones, Sean Lennon, and Slipknot's Corey Taylor over the years. In the spirit of that collaborative tradition, Conquer sees Max with Throwdown's Dave Peters on the standout track, "Unleash," and with Morbid Angel's David Vincent on "Blood Fire War Hate." On "Unleash," Peters and Max create a corrosive chorus that isn't easily forgotten. Max says, "It's the closest thing I've done to Pantera. Dave put some killer lyrics to the music. The fast part at the end is my favorite part on the album." Firing off a throat-slicing riff and catchy hook, "Unleash" impacts like a wrecking ball. About working with underground metal hero Vincent, Max exclaims, "His screaming on that song was off the wall! To work with David was a trip. The song's a full assault, and it feels really natural. It's got that uncompromising attitude." Soulfly is truly a world music-inspired collective and the writing and recording process often sees Cavalera globetrotting for atypical inspiration. For Soulfly's fifth album, Dark Ages, saw Max travel to five locations to record, but for Conquer, a trip to Egypt was all he needed. He says, "I like to mix cultures. The other Soulfly albums were more Eastern European-flavored. Sepultura was more Brazilian. Egypt has a big chunk of influence on Conquer. We visited 'The City of the Dead' while we were in Egypt. It's a cemetery where families still live near their dead. That was crazy, creepy and wild. I didn't know the Cairo trip was going to affect the album as much as it did." The eerie, tribal outro of "For Those About to Rot" was a direct result of the trip, as Max recorded it live by the Nile. It's a strange transition that heightens the musical tension. "By the Nile River, there was this crazy gypsy band playing killer music," Cavalera recalls. "I happened to have my recorder so I recorded them and made an interlude out of their performance. It felt so authentic to have that outro—like old Sepultura. I'd rather the record sounds live than use a sound library from the Internet. That outro is subtle. I've been making records for so long, and I finally found the perfect balance between brutality and experimentation." Therefore, Conquer is a truly organic sonic experience. Max also sculpted a head-spinning trip into psychedelic metal territory with "Touching the Void." Stretching past the seven-minute mark, the song oozes classic Sabbath sludge, while incorporating entrancing dub flourishes. For Max, that track's extremely important. "Honestly, it's a thank you to Black Sabbath for being Black Sabbath. It's slow doom metal," he says. On the track, Max also collaborated with French dub artist Fedaya Pacha. Of the experience, Max says, "Fedaya makes dark, really heavy dub—completely different from commercial dub. He did the outro for 'Touching the Void,' and he played a lot of weird instruments. Those little things definitely make this song special when you listen to it." In the end, Conquer, just like every note of music he's ever produced, comes from Cavalera's heart. He eschews studio trickery and computerized flourishes in favor of straightforward instrumentation and real world experimentation. "I do this for the love of music," he says. "We could use the tools of the market to make a commercial record and sell more, but I wouldn't be as happy inside. I made the choice, and we aren't going down the easy road. We're going down the fucked up road, but that's the road that we know." With that sincerity, there's no doubt that Max and company will conquer all roads ahead. |

Raven Vandelle Raven Vandelle are built around a solid core of Midlands rock heritage and the lineage for their material ultimately draws its closest connections from those roots. Influences like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Slade are all factors that contribute to the band's creative forces as well as other artists and bands from a wide spectrum of genres from across the globe. Dave Taylor on Vocals/Guitar, Jimi Jimmi on Bass, Nik Crutchley on Lead Guitar and Matt Goom on Drums all create the unmistakably heavy but melodic sounds of Raven Vandelle. Thundering bass lines and blistering drums create a stunning rhythm section, which is then fused with roaring rhythms and live wire guitar solos to compliment a truly soulful vocal with a Rodgers-esque gravel. Songs with all the ingredients of fetching melodies, intense lyrics and powerful music create "Sing Along" anthemic rock in the Raven Vandelle manner. |

The ROXY MAGIC show always produces a stunning performance not to be missed! A recent review states "Kevin Hackett as Ferry is indescribably superb. Not only does he sound the part, but credit where credit is certainly due - the guy has seriously done his homework on the facial expressions & body language to bring the persona 'alive' No mean feat in itself. And I really cannot help but feel that even Mr. Ferry himself would be genuinely hard pressed not to be even a tad flattered and appreciative at the dedicated effort that Kevin has so obviously put in". It takes a certain air to pull that reverse-rebellious streak off - Bryan did it with aplomb and these days Kevin Hackett is treading the same path. |

U.S. soul acts rarely visited the UK and, having come over as a part of the U.S. Airforce and stayed, Geno became our soul man.
Eventually, having made Pye Records and numerous managers and club promoters millions, he decided he had to rest. The only way to do this was to go back to the 'States to escape the constant demand for the live show. He had worn out the sixties and the mighty Washington batteries needed recharging. Back in the U.S. and relative calm, life was very different.

Formed in New York, New York by former Waysted vocalist Danny Vaughn, Brooke St. James (guitar), Jimi Kennedy (bass) and Michael Clayton (drums). The debut was an instant classic, sounding like a heavier version of Journey and Foreigner. The real talent was Vaughn's wonderful vocals, as displayed on the debut single "Forever Young" and the powerful ballad "Standing Alone". Following on from the release of the second album, Strength In Numbers, Danny Vaughn temporarily retired from the music business to spend time at home with his very sick wife. Tyketto recruited Steve Augeri (Journey), but the magic was lost.

Maybe Winehouse is the UK's Number 1 Tribute to the fantastic but maybe a little troubled(!) Amy Winehouse.
Soulfly's sixth offering for Roadrunner Records, Conquer, may very well be the musical equivalent of the movie Braveheart. The songs –much like the warriors in the film- channel raw, unbridled rage through a cacophony of thrash guitars, infectious grooves, tribal polyrhythms and Max Cavalera's unmistakable, thunderous roar. On this record, Soulfly unleash a metallic mayhem unlike anything they've done previously. Conquer shifts from unrelenting, precise speed metal to slow, brooding doom. Mark Rizzo's lead guitar rips with the precision of a smart bomb, while Bobby Burns grinds out volatile, chest-caving bass lines. Drummer Joe Nunez crushes behind the kit, forging a rhythmic background for all-out sonic war. Once again, it's the legendary Max Cavalera who stands at the eye of the storm, uniting the musical tribe and acting as its unofficial leader. His voice and guitar command the tribe into battle with each line and riff. Grab your war paint and prepare for the onslaught.
ed prolific. Four critically acclaimed albums and numerous world tours followed Soulfly's now-classic debut. In 2008, Max once again partnered with his brother Iggor in Cavalera Conspiracy, releasing Inflikted. At the same time, he managed to write and record Conquer. Produced by Max and mixed by Andy Sneap (Machine Head, Arch Enemy), the album spans a violent spectrum. Max comments, "After Cavalera Conspiracy, I wanted to write a stronger, uncompromised statement with Soulfly. What I [did] on this album is what I was aiming for. This is the Soulfly album that I've been trying to make for a long time." That's evident from the calculated rage and bludgeoning grooves that define songs like "Enemy Ghost" and "Rough."
Mick Slacker & Co's tounge in cheek tribute act just gets better and better.
To celebrate the official 30th Anniversary of the release of the film Quadrophenia (1979 - 2009), Time Bomb in conjunction with the Brook present: Quadrophenia III 'A Way Of Life' live on stage. The ultimate Mod show.
Comments form the August audience: "Time Bomb hit us with The Who big guns, You Better You Bet, Baba O'Reilly, Wont Get Fooled Again. I have not yet heard a band attempt "You better you bet" and even The Who said in earlier years that they struggled with it live, but what a rendition with the crowd reaction and singing in the middle this 5 minute track lasted nearly double that. Fantastic jaw dropping stuff."
