The Blow Monkeys Watch Video
The Blow Monkeys are unique with a career spanning over 40 years. Always making new music, always stretching their own musical boundaries. With worldwide hits such as the classics “Digging Your Scene” and “It Doesn’t Have To Be This Way”, they became household names but there was always so much more going on with these simian soulsters.
Their relentless desire to move forward, to collaborate, to be socially engaged and to have something to contribute. Back in the 80’s they worked with people as varied as Curtis Mayfield, Paul Weller, Cheb Khaled and even Jamaican Toaster EEK-a-Mouse!. “No band since The Clash in their early 80’s heyday had attempted to act as a sounding board for such politically engaged, eclectic music”
Dr Robert even took time out to release one of the UK’s first homegrown ‘house’ records “Wait”, his top 5 duet with Chicago soul diva Kym Maselle.
And so the journey continues. Reformed in 2008 The Blow Monkeys have been incredibly productive releasing six new albums and playing hundreds of concerts. Their latest album “Journey To You” ( 2021) was recorded during ‘lockdown’ and features the extraordinary single “Time Storm” . BMG have also re-released their classic album from 1986 ‘Animal Magic’ as part of their “Iconic” series. It comes as a 4 CD boxset and tasty white vinyl limited edition with extra tracks and rarities galore.
These Monkeys continue to evolve. From their beginnings on the underground club scene right through to their appearance on the biggest selling soundtrack of all time “Dirty Dancing” (You Don’t Own Me) and beyond. Long may they swing.
Jaz Delorean
Jaz Delorean is a London based British singer, with the European touring band Tankus (previously Tankus the Henge) and also on his own at the piano.
He has a colourful past together with a wild and wandering present. The songs that he sings and plays on the piano are tender observations of our fragile and sometimes twisted existence on this planet, taking inspiration from bar-room piano players of the Old West, the mournful melodies of his Cypriot ancestry and a patchwork of comic and tragic stories from growing up around a travelling funfair.
Strange things happen in dreams, but stranger things can happen in waking life, and Jaz Delorean has never shied away from baring his tattered soul to anyone willing to listen.
He’ll pull at your heartstrings and get you dancing to the rhythms of his fingers and forgetting your own worries for a time, before skulking off into the blackness behind the neon carnival lights again. Some things aren’t meant to be kept.
Champions of Soul
I am passionate about Soul, Funk, Jazz Funk and Disco and have been a DJ and promoter for 8 years.
Myself and my partner Alban put on events throughout Hampshire and also organise Soul boats from Southampton which get amazing feedback. I have supported Kenny Thomas and The Brit Funk Association and I’m looking forward to playing some 80’s Soul. I have played at Soul events in Lanzarote, Corfu, Rhodes, Turkey, Athens and on a cruise.
We have 6,600 members in our group Champions of Soul and many people have made new friends and met partners at our events.
Happiness for me is seeing people dancing to my music
