Lewis Wood

N)YTMG presents is excited to bring the live show of Lewis Wood’s debut solo album to the Brook.  The first date on the tour and at the venue where the album was recorded!  Expect an uniqueevening of amazing playing and incredible dancing as we tour England’s regions and their dancing traditions set to glorious new music.

Lewis Wood is a Folk Violinist, Multi-Instrumentalist and Composer currently based in Hampshire, and has been a part of the folk scene in England for a decade and a half. His playing draws mostly from the English Fiddle tradition, with influences from European and North American folk, as well as jazz and contemporary music. While being respectful to these traditions, he is also keen to push their boundaries, both through his interpretations of traditional music and his tune writing. He is probably best known for his work with acclaimed trio Granny’s Attic, who have gone from strength to strength since they formed in 2009. He also plays in a duo with Threepenny Bit clarinettist Helen Gentile, and is an experienced session musician.

Footwork is Lewis’s debut solo album and live show, consisting of original tunes written for English Step Dancing. The album features the feet of six of the country’s best step and step clog dancers, each a leading exponent of their regional style. The live show brings together these varied traditions and the experiences of those who have lived and breathed them, all set to a backdrop of exquisite newly composed music. Performing alongside Lewis are dancers Simon Harmer and Toby Bennett, multi-instrumentalist Aaron Horlock, and narrator Georgia Lewis.

The live show was developed with funding from Instep Research Team, and the album was recorded at the Brook with sponsorship from The Alan Surtees Trust.
